This past Friday morning, UTM hosted a Memorial Day Observance on the front lawn of the administration building.
The ceremony, conducted with respect and honor, included time for Sgt. Cole Champion, a UTM student when deployed to Iraq, to reflect and share with the audience his thoughts on Memorial Day. Read his speech posted on the UTM University Relations site and spend some time remembering our fallen soliders.

Recently I worked with a client, and now friend, who moved to Martin with her family when her husband took at job at UTM. She and a partner bought and are renovating an old building downtown to provide Martin with a coffee and gift shop--a much needed business in our downtown area. It is called The Looking Glass: Coffee and Curiosities, and the scheduled opening is set for Soybean Festival week in September. I know I'll be standing in line for my afternoon latte! Be sure to stay tuned for more updates on their progress.
Tennessee has much to offer newcomers with its varied weather and seasons, its southern traditions and its marvelous lakes, parks and recreation areas, its metropolitan and rural cities and towns, and of course, with its business opportunities. Here's the latest update provided by the Tennessee Association of Realtors on the business environment in our fair state--
"Tennessee Rated Very Good for Business!
CHIEF EXECUTIVE magazine annually reports which states offer the best and worst conditions for businesses to prosper (evaluating such things as tax policies, quality of life, infrastructure, regulatory environment, etc.)
In their newly released report, those states rated as the best places to do business are:
And the states rated as the worst places?
Notwithstanding floodwaters, Tennessee's a great place to live and work!

Celebrate that we live in this fabulous state or consider joining us in Tennessee!
Happy Wednesday!

What a storm we survived in Martin and Northwest Tennessee yesterday! I talked with one homeowner in Troy whose roof on her 2000 square foot home was slowly being crushed by the massive, old tree knocked down in the storm. Most importantly, no one was hurt, and roofs can be repaired.
Taking a good look at the outside of your property is just as important as the inside review you do before you put your house up for sale. Many times, a home buyer will rule out a home because of its curb appeal.

When you walk into our office on North Lindell, no doubt, you will hear John Salmon talking to someone.
He is probably following through on the many details for the homes he sells, or meeting with customers to help them find the right home to buy. Or he may be taking a quick break from the daily push to update a coworker on the achievements of a grandchild or to laugh over a funny story or joke he just heard.
John connects with people, and his dedication to helping others shows through in all he does as a real estate professional, as a county commissioner, a community volunteer, and as a husband, dad and grandfather.
Hats off to C21 Overton's Residential Sales and Foreclosure Specialist, John Salmon, who recently added another C21 coveted sales award for sales to the long line of awards sitting behind his desk.

Be sure to congratulate him when you see him or email him at C21salmon@aol.com.
